"On The Square" Northfield, Minnesota is a small city with a remarkable history. At its heart, it is a river town and its site was chosen by its founder, John North, for that reason. A natural fall in the river led to the establishment of a saw-mill and grist-mill. A town square (originally called Mill Square) was created next to the flour mill and to this day has been the heart or center of community life. It is now called Bridge Squre. To me,
the quality of life in a small Midwestern city is enhanced by having a "center"
- a place where people can meet and feel a part of something larger than themselves.
At the same time, the meeting place must possess a human scale, a congenial configuration
and size that says to those who visit, "I am one of you." The documentary
is about 9 minutes long. I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I did putting it
together. | |||||||||
